Hi there! So you may have noticed that I've been the worst when it comes to this blog and the shop and have barely updated as of late! I have (somewhat) of a good reason though, in the last two months I moved halfway across the country from Boston to Bloomington, Indiana to start working for a great company! As I've been trying to settle in to my new town, new apartment, new job (new everything), I  just wasn't that inspired to blog or update the store. Plus I was totally mourning being separated from my favorite place to find vintage back home.


Not surprisingly, though I started to miss the hunt of thrifting, my wardrobe felt super stale (I was literally wearing my favorite black circle mini skirt like 4 days a week), and overall was just feeling inspired by fashion in general. Which then of course affected how I felt about my appearance and so on and so forth. Luckily though, the vintage bug bit once again after I made an effort to start finding vintage here in Indiana and luckily if you hunt hard enough great vintage can be found anywhere. Soooo I'm feeling super good about this blog and the shop once again and have tons of ideas and clothes to share, so stay tuned. I'm planning on taking pictures of some of the new shop merchandise that I have later today too (read when I'm less hungover). After a painfully long Winter, the weather is finally getting warm here in Massachusetts!  I am starting to move my wardrobe into Spring mode, which means tons of floral prints. Lately, I've been super obsessed with Sunflower-print things, which I don't have any of despite owning about 20 flower printed items (~tuff life~). Anyone who knows me should not be surprised to hear the following statement: I freaking love Sonic Youth. They are probably my favorite band after Eric's Trip, who named themselves after a Sonic Youth song. I took a page from Eric's Trip and named my shop/blog after a Sonic Youth song too. I rest my case.

I think one of the reasons I love Sonic Youth so much is because of their epic bassist/vocalist, Kim Gordon. Kim was one of the first "cool girl musicians" that I really looked up to. She's a huge inspiration to me and definitely could be considered one of my all-time personal heroes. Thus, I thought it would be totes appropriate to devote a Style Icon post to her! Plus, did you know that Kim has started several of her own clothing lines including X-Girl in the mid 90s, Surface to Air in 2008 and Mirror/Dash for Urban Outfitters in 2009.


Below are some of my favorite Kim fashion statements and ways that you can get her look!

The Black and White Stripped Mini: Whenever I think of Kim Gordon's fashion choices, I always think of her in a black and white stripped mini dress probably because she wore on in the 90s a lot!). A dress like this is definitely a classic wardrobe staple and below are some links to ones that I found on the 'net. The one on the right is sequined (!!) too, which I feel Kim would be totes into.

Earlier today I was listening to the band Summer Camp and then was looking through their album covers and was really struck by how much I love the aesthetic of their early singles and EPs. There is something so romantic about the stock images from the '60s,'70s and '80s they use-they remind of old pictures of my parents when they were younger!





So I was looking at these covers and started coming up with so much outfit inspiration of looks I could wear with pieces I already own! Namely bell bottoms, bell sleeves, floral crop tops and maxi skirts and wooden clogs. Hopefully you will find some inspiration too!

Hiya! Time for another round edition of Vintage Seller Spotlight, this time with the lovely Marina from Angela Chase Vintage! I stumbled upon Marina's shop a little while ago and fell in love with its aesthetic vision. Her store is full of great pieces that all remind me of something that would be worn by a babelicious 90s babe. Read on to learn more about Marina and what inspires her with her shop!

What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Marina Mills Kitchen. I’m actually a graphic designer (www.marinamillskitchen.com) currently living in New Haven, Connecticut because I’m earning my MFA in graphic design at Yale. I’m originally from Southern California, but moved to New York when I was 18.

What made you want to start selling vintage on Etsy? How did you first get interested in vintage clothing?
My older sister had always been a fan of vintage clothing, but from a young age, I dismissed secondhand clothing in favor of new, trendy items from mall stores like Contempo Casuals. That finally changed in my last year of high school, when my sister gave me a few of her vintage concert t-shirts from the 70s. I liked that the shirts were one-of-a-kind, with interesting, slightly off-kilter graphics on them, and I realized that it was boring to dress the same as everyone else. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on thrift stores.

For years I have found ways to monetize, or subsidize, my favorite hobby, frequently buying vintage items in city outskirts and reselling them to stores in metropolitan areas. I recently opened my Etsy Store, Angela Chase Vintage, and I only wish I had opened it years ago. I like that there are so many girls out there who appreciate my taste enough to buy clothing from me. That’s pretty flattering. Plus, now I have an excuse to go thrifting even more often because its part of “my job.”

What is your favorite decade clothes wise?
My favorite decade or era is definitely the early 90s. I like to find clothing that resembles something my favorite female characters (from the TV shows I watched growing up) would wear, like chunky shoes, leopard prints, floral patterns, and colored denim.

Who is your ultimate vintage icon?
I named my store after Angela Chase from My So-Called Life. Angela and her friend Rayanne continue to be a huge inspiration for me. I also love Kelly Kapowski from Saved By the Bell, Kelly Bundy from Married with Children, and Ferris Bueller’s girlfriend, Sloane. I also can’t forget 90s Winona Ryder.

Favorite band, tv show, movie?
For the past year I’ve been listening to a lot of Arthur Russell. Favorite TV show would be My So-Called Life, and my favorite movie has been Romeo and Juliet (1996) for way too long now.

What advice do you have for those interested in starting an Etsy shop?
I only buy things (to sell) that I love, and I think this is a great way to establish an identity for your store and set yourself apart from the other vintage stores out there. I frequently come across items from the 50s in thrift stores that I know I could easily sell, but since I wouldn’t wear that kind of thing myself, I leave those items behind. Maybe some people out there will dislike that the majority of my store’s items are from the same decade, but that also means that I will eventually attract girls with similar taste to mine, who like the 90s as much as I do

Hey guys! Happy Thursday! Can you believe it's Thursday already? This week is flying by, which is awesome! Today I'm going to working on my post-graduation job search (woo!), forcing myself to go to the gym and then I have one class later this afternoon. In an ideal world I will also have time to stop by the thrift store that is up the street from me, but we'll see if that happens. If not, I can always stop by this weekend. I feel like I haven't been thrifting in so long, but then I remembered I went less than a week ago. I think thoughts like that might be a sign that I have a *problem*, but whatever, I'm shopping for the shop!


I'm still in bed as I write this. I'm listening to the album The Buried Life by the band Medicine right now and IT'S SO GOOD. I had it on repeat all day yesterday, which isn't something I usually do with albums. If you like shoegaze and My Bloody Valentine, definitely check it out! It reminds me a lot of the new My Bloody Valentine record, m b v, which is kind of weird though because The Buried Life came out in 1993. This record took me a few listens to totally "get", so don't give up on it if you don't like it at first! I swear, it is brilliant-that brilliance is just a little slow to unveil itself!

Anyways... I thought I'd just do a quick shop update because I've added some new stuff since I last posted. I still have tons more to list, and I'm trying to sustain motivation and get everything added, so stay tuned!
